Tailored "Give-Back" days for Schools, Camps, Clubs, etc.

Every year FOTM gets contacted by various groups wanting to do a few hours or a few days giving a bit back to our Mitta Mitta river environs. It can be anything from dealing with invasive weeds to clearing river journey campsites to park campsite maintenance and repair, trail maintenance and more. It's up to what the group wants to achieve. We've accomodated Alpine School, Outward Bound, Edinborough and several others over the years.

To make things easier we've developed some protocols, as below;

  • Groups need to contact FOTM with at least 3 months prior notice

  • Have project themes in mind when contacting FOTM so we can help you pick out potential projects

  • FOTM will advise, then must contact the land management agency involved for their approval (Parks Victoria, DEECA, LandCare, etc.). Their approval will have to take into consideration at least the following:

    • resources & manpower

    • costs

    • What’s needed at the time

  • They may or may not allow the project to proceed after consideration.

FOTM is simply the conduit to help make environmental projects happen if possible. Our mandate includes anything within the greater Mitta Mitta river drainage. Our main annual volunteer “Give Back” day is where much of our work gets done. We’d love to help make projects happen for your group, school, camp etc., however we also must consider our time constraints as well as agency requirements.

IF we can make something happen, if it’s within Parks, we then must input it into the Park Connect site. If in forest lands, not so much.

FOTM will do our best to help coordinate any projects, but if within Parks a park ranger must be involved as well. Also FOTM volunteers helping your project will need one of your own staff, teacher or guide to participate. We’ll dial you in to what needs to be done, and will probably have tools to loan out. Your own staff will need to deal with any discipline issues with your group/students, and to keep your group motivated.

Your group will need its own transportation, snacks, water, lunch. and personal items like proper clothing and footwear, gloves, sunscreen etc.
